Recently, the government has decided to change the name and has officially announced that Gurgaon will be known as Gurugram. In order to know what exactly is going on with this name changing, we will have to dig past out of the mythologies. Let’s have a look at the naming of this place Gurgaon or Gurugram.

The mythologies say that Gurgaon used to be the village of teacher of Pandvas and  Kauravas, Guru Dronacharya during the Mahabharta. Gurugram is supposed to be a historical and religious name of this place. This is the reason the government named it Gurgaon as Gurugram.

It is said that in ancient time Gurgaon used to be a part of Yaduvansi or Jadaun tribes. During the time of Mughals, the then Mughal emperor Babur annexed it. At first, this place was used as to watch over the army of Begum Samru of Sridhana. Then the place was a part of district which later on broken down into praganas. It remained same till the first revolt of freedom. Later on, it was divided into five tehsils namely, Nuh, Palwal, Rewari and Firozpur Jhirka. When the country got independence, it fell under Punjab state. When Haryana was made out of Punjab in 1966, Gurgaon came under Haryana state. No doubt, be it Gurgaon or Gurugram, it will be a city with dreams.
