I had my first snow experience at Kufri Zoo. What about you?

I was disappointed to see no snowfall when I reached Shimla the morning. The sky was still dark and it was a bit cold but no views of snow anywhere. There were still many hours to check in the hotel. While I was passing my time sitting at a chair at ISBT Shimla, I was thinking where to go to experience snow else my weekend trip would have been spoilt. When the sun started to spread its golden rays, I booked a cab and managed to reach my hotel after several directions. I spent some time there at the hotel, got freshened up and left to Kufri Zoo. I had no idea of visiting this place. It was all told by this cab driver who kept on talking on the way and gave me a deal of taking me to some famous places of Shimla including Kufri Zoo, Himalayan National Park where I experienced snow for...

Why did I not include Shimla in travel list? But I visited…

Himachal Pradesh has been one of my favourite weekend destinations from Delhi. A round the clock journey from Delhi took me to some of the most incredibly beautiful places this state of Himalaya has to offer. However, I haven’t been able to visit some of the remotest areas of Himachal Pradesh like Lahaul & Spiti. Yet, whatever distance I could cover which my weekends had allowed, I had tended to explore as much as I could. As I started travelling to different locations of Himachal Pradesh, I heard from a lot of people that the state capital was not something I would enjoy visiting. So, I didn’t include Shimla in travel list. Yet, I visited Shimla last year in December and then I realised those people were right. No offence, Shimla is as beautiful as other places of the state but I ...

Where to eat in Bundi?

I kept roaming in Bundi till the evening. I had visited all the places which I included in my one day’s itinerary and then I searched for a place to eat in Bundi. The last place that I visited in Bundi was 84 pillared cenotaph which was a little bit far from the main market. When I came out on the main road after visiting the chhatri, I stopped an auto wallah and asked him to drop me at a nice place to eat in Bundi. “Yaha koi badhiya restaurant hai kya?” (Is there a nice restaurant nearby?)“Han, hai na! Apko kis type ka chahiye?” (Yes, there are. What’s your choice?)“Ek achcha sa restaurant jaha m thodi der baith ke aram kar saku or achcha kha saku” (I am looking for a place where I can sit, relax and enjoy a scrumptious meal.)“EK yaha yaha nazdeek. Badhiya wala hai. Le chalu?” (There’...

One Day Itinerary of Bundi – Things to do in Bundi

Ever imagined a place which itself is a complete destination for every history enthusiast who loves travelling? From ancient temples to Baori, cenotaphs, forts, temples and lakes, what else do you need? When you sit and look for such places in India, where exactly do you find yourself travelling to? And that too an offbeat place, where you won’t find yourself surrounded by the crowd, where you can roam easily passing through narrow ancient alleyways and markets. I have visited Jaipur where I did find all such sites but Jaipur is commercialized and crowded. Thus, I reached Bundi, a small town near Kota which fulfilled my thirst to visit such a place. On my personal experience, I have prepared a one day itinerary of Bundi which includes all major places which can be visited in a day. Fou...

I could only count 82 pillars of 84 Pillared Cenotaph

The architectural wonders of Bundi kept me overwhelmed for the day. Since I visited for one day only and I had to pick the most iconic places to visit in Bundi, 84 Pillared Cenotaph was still untouched in my list. The name itself was pretty impressive and kept me glued to visit here. I had to return to Gurgaon the same night thus I was in no mood to leave this place without visiting. It was far from Sukh Palace and as I told in my earlier post, there are no regular public transport services, no Ola, Uber or any other sort of cab facility; it’s just the local auto-rickshaws. I had taken a combined ticket for three places i.e. Raniji Ki Baori, Sukh Niwas Palace and Chaurasi Khambhon ki Chhatri or 84 Pillared Cenotaph in Bundi which was a great relief. After spending an hour or so at ...
