Rain!
The word which turns faces happy. The word which makes one forget the pain. Poets, artists, lyricists, philosophers and so many other people have written over this subject. Rain is about love, rain is about liberty, and rain is about the feeling of something new, something fresh. And of course, rain is like life for farmers. In India, rain is highly valued and considered to be divinity showered from the sky. We have the seasons for rain. It has its own set time period to come and go. The monsoon in India is a whole drenched in the rain. And the first drops of rain in the season are said to be the healing one. I remember the famous rain song by Jose Feliciano, where he sings,
“Listen to the pouring rain
Listen to it pour,
And with every drop of rain

Let it rain all night long,
Let my love for you go strong,
As long as we’re together
Who cares about the weather?

A very romantic song! Isn’t it? I really love this song and whenever it rains, it often listens to this track. It’s soulful. And then there are other songs which can make on go dance and splash in the rain. I remember when we were kids, we used to make a paper boats during the rain and then we used to play. We had a competition for the winner boat. We used to take a bath in the rain. Those were the days of childhood when the rain was like a toy and we enjoyed playing in the rain. Farmers eagerly wait for the rain whole the time. And when it rains, it washes their every worry. People enjoy “Chai Pakodas” in rainy seasons.
Gone are the days. Now in metro cities when it rains, it creates huge problems. The drainage system is the most important to be taken into consideration. It becomes really hard for people to step out of their homes. The roads start to overflow and the traffic system gets disturbed. Now we people have created an ecological imbalance in nature and the rain sometimes becomes the cause of devastation. The rain which is one of the most important factors for the grain to grow, on which the man survives sometimes becomes the cause of the huge natural calamity. We have seen it in Kedarnath, sometimes in Mumbai as well where it rains so heavily that it creates problems for daily life.
I travel around 15km every day to reach my office from my room. It takes me more than a complete hour to reach my office. And since the last two days, it has been raining cats and dogs. People find it really hard to even cross the roads. And then the roads are full of potholes. When these potholes get filled with rainwater, it becomes hard to see if there is a pothole on the road or not. Many times, vehicles get stuck in them and become the cause of road accidents. The metro cities have this basic problem of proper recycling and sanitation. And the traffic jam is just terrific.
