Since it is going to be a one day journey from Delhi to Agra with return on the same day, you must know which places you want to visit and how much time you have to spend on each place. Mind that most of the monuments are closed by 5 PM. You can either take a road trip or can take a train to Agra from Delhi. There are regular bus and train services from Delhi to Agra.
Which places to visit in One Day Delhi to Agra Trip?
While planning a one day Delhi to Agra trip, you need to focus on the time. Since it is a one day trip and you need to cover all the major places of Agra, you need to work on the time division. And for this, you need to chalk out the places which you want to visit on your one day trip to Agra from Delhi. Let’s pick some major places:
- Taj Mahal – You should not spend more than 3 hours to visit the Taj Mahal.
- Itmad – ud – Daula Tomb – You shouldn’t spend more than 1 hour there.
- Agra Fort – The fort takes around 2 hours to visit completely.
- Jama Masjid – It can be explored in less than an hour.
- Tomb of Akbar – It shouldn’t take more than 1 hour for the complete visit.
Taj Mahal
These are the major places which you should cover in a day. Fatehpur Sikri, being around 36KM away from Agra, will need a dedicated day to visit. Hence, for one day, you should stick to these places only which are major in Agra and can be visited in a day. If you are traveling solo, you can visit maximum places in a shorter time.

When you are planning a one day Delhi to Agra trip, it is advisable to leave early in the morning. Gatiman Express takes around 1:40 hours to reach Agra from Delhi (it needs advance booking and is expensive as compared to normal trains). Agra is located at a distance of 233KM from Delhi which means it takes roughly around 4 hours to reach there. So, boarding a train at around 6 in the morning can make you reach Agra by 9 AM. Or you can take an early bus at around 4 AM from ISBT Kashmiri Gate or you can book online at your convenience.
Agra Fort
Taj Mahal opens at 6 AM and closes by 6 PM (it remains closed on Fridays). If you are reaching Agra station at 9 AM, it will roughly around half an hour to reach there. It is better to reach Agra early because by the time of peak hours, it starts to get crowded and you will have to wait long for the tickets. Let’s say, you enter Taj Mahal at 10 AM and spend there 3 hours; you will finish it by noon. Now, you can head to Itmad – ud – Daula Tomb which is located close to Taj Mahal. Spend there an hour. It’s around 1 PM and lunchtime. There are many restaurants, cafes around Taj for this.

Mehtab Garden
You resume your one day Delhi to Agra trip at 2 PM. Reach Agra Fort in 10 minutes. It should take you around 2 hours maximum to explore the fort. From there, you move to Jama Masjid which is around 700m only from Agra Fort, you can even take a walk. Spend there for half an hour and move to the Tomb of Akbar. This monument closes by 6:30 PM. You will get free from Jama Masjid by 5 PM. Tomb of Akbar is located at a distance of 14KM from Jama Masjid. Take a cab and reach there in half an hour.
Akbar Tomb
You have ample time to reach there and explore the tomb of Mughal Emperor Akbar.
Though there are more places in Agra to visit such as Mehtab Bagh, Anguri Bagh, Chini Ka Rauza which are located around in distance of less than 4KM from the main city. But the above mentioned are the most visited places and shouldn’t be missed out if you are planning one day Delhi to Agra trip. Even if you get free from the Tomb of Akbar at 6:30 PM, you can spend one hour in roaming and exploring the local markets. You can catch a bus at 8 PM back to Delhi from Agra.
