So far, I am a weekend traveler only and can’t say about the future. I only get weekends (Saturday and Sunday) to travel and I have to make the most of my traveling in these two days only. At the year-end of 2019 in December, I made a weekend trip to Kasauli and Shimla. Well, it was a weekend trip to Shimla actually and Kasauli wasn’t on the list. I was supposed to spend my two days in Shimla itself but the next day I came to Kasauli without anything much on the name of planning.
While I only had one day to spend in Kasauli, I didn’t get to explore much of it. If I talk about the time, I didn’t even have one day. I reached there pretty late and since there was no itinerary of Kasauli, there was nothing much to explore in Kasauli. Thus, it is better to first plan the trips but I have been bitten by the bug of unplanned travel so usually, I end up traveling without any such plans. When I came home from Kasauli and checked some blogs, I realized there could have been more than what I did there. I mean if we talk about places to visit in Kasauli on one day, I didn’t do much.

I only visited one place in Kasauli, the famous Christ Church, the oldest church in Himachal Pradesh and that was what I did on a weekend trip to Kasauli, wish I could have explored more. But it was all because of no planning. I reached there in the late morning and then I had no idea of places to explore in Kasauli. This small British-established town had more to offer only if I were prepared to taste its sweetness. I came all in a hurry and left much of the deliciousness. However when I left, when I took a bus back to Dharampur, I realized that it wasn’t over and one day I would be back in Kasauli.
What did I do on a weekend trip to Kasauli?
So I was done with the crowd and chaos of Shimla as Delhi was enough for me for crowd and chaos. So, I wanted to leave there and go to someplace better. Google showed me options and I opted for Kasauli. Till college, I used to think that Kasol is Kasauli. I got to know very late that both places are different, located almost 250km away from each other. When I got down at the bus stop of Kasauli and took a walk towards the main center, the first thing that captured my attention was the military area and the second thing was the church which was easily from a distance.

While I was heading towards the church, on the way, I saw a few shops and I reached one since I hadn’t eaten anything since morning. It was a tea stall, selling light snacks like pakoda and samosa. I had one bread pakoda and one samosa and then I moved to the church. It was a bit crowded and there was a pre-wedding shoot which somehow was something I wasn’t looking for. Since I reached here late, I didn’t get to explore much of the place. I had no idea what to do in Kasauli in one day.

Kasauli was settled by the British back then. A church was made for their sacred purposes and they started living there. You take a walk and you will feel the countryside of England. The small town still has preserved the same smell and one can easily feel so after spending some moments there. However, I didn’t get to explore much there. By the time it started to get dark, I visited a restaurant for dinner since I was starving. I hadn’t eaten anything since morning other than just light snacks. I didn’t go around and checked more options. Somehow, it felt to me that either I was on the wrong side or the shops were mostly closed that day which I even felt when I reached in the day. Well, I entered this fancy looking restaurant and had the meal of the day.

They say the evenings in the hills are beautiful, romantic and something you shouldn’t want to miss. The place other than the church that I wanted to go was the Sunset Point. Unfortunately, it was already late and dark too. The next day, I had to be back in the office I was working at, thus I missed out. Though the place from where I saw this wonderful phenomenon of nature, it was itself incredible to watch the sun embracing the earth.
I hope there will be a day when I will be back there. I would spend more than just a day in Kasauli and will explore all the places I didn’t get to explore on my one day trip to Kasauli.
