Heading to Kotgarh from Narkanda in the cab I booked from Narkanda itself, I passed through some of the most beautiful views of the year. It was last January end and the sky was blue. The roads and trees were covered with patches of snow which meant it had snowed recently. It looked like a couple of days before my arrival. I wish I could have come here at the time of snow. But it still was tranquil. The giant pine trees and the spiral road with snow on both the sides, the serene surroundings, and the excitement of the first trip of the year, everything caught me mesmerized for a long. However, I hadn’t decided on any place to stay in Kotgarh.
Though when I reached Narkanda, I wasn’t aware of any hotel nearby the village. I asked the cab driver and I got some options online too but nothing worked out, some of them were full and some were out of my budget. Fortunately, I found one, contacted the person, and booked a room. It takes around 50 minutes or so from Narkanda to reach Kotgarh. I am not sure if there are more accommodation options in Kotgarh or the one I stayed at was the only one. There must be more in nearby areas. But this one was in the village itself. And this was the only place to stay in Kotgarh which I found so close to the village while searching online.
I usually keep myself shut when I am in a vehicle passing through such scenic beauty. I avoid getting engaged in long conversations though I asked the driver about places to stay in Kotgarh. The reason, I love watching nature through the vehicle’s windows, trees running behind, local people working, walking on the roads, kids playing at a distance, clouds dancing on the songs by birds; who would want to miss such magical moments? Would you? Well, I won’t. All I want is to get immersed in the enchanting hues of the moment and forget what I left behind.

13 Forest B&B – A Place to Stay in Kotgarh
So, after weaving so many thoughts of the wonderland, I reached the hotel. The journey from Narkanda to Kotgarh was scenic and I clicked several photos on the way. It looked amazing. I checked in and the hotel guy showed me my room. A room with a big glass-window with some really heart-throbbing views, an attached washroom, a big comfy bed, an LED tv. Since it was an overnight journey, and I was a little exhausted, thus I felt like taking rest for a while before starting my day’s expedition. I took shower and damn! There was no shower in the washroom. The water was freezing cold as it was January, the peak of snow however I take cold shower only all through the year. So, after the shower, I took rest for some time.

The enchanting music of nature, that’s what I miss living in Delhi/Gurgaon, the pristine beauty of nature, and the sounds of birds singing, I could sense everything here. I often wonder how we have lost our innocence in the fast pacing life. Yet, when I come to places like this, I realize what we are losing in our life. For me, someone who travels unplanned, places like this are true blessings and do wonders, giving lots of memories for every penny I spend. And this accommodation property I came to stay in Kotgarh, was worth every dime.
So, after lying in the bed for an hour or so, I ordered food. The guy cooked dal, aloo gobhi ki sabzi, and roti. That aloo gobhi ki sabzi, I mean the taste was incomparable. It was so palatable that my taste buds and senses were on fire. I must have eaten 6 or 7 rotis. Such a scrumptious meal of the day it was and that too with an incredible view in the front. Though there was a table and chairs in the room but I sat on the ground and used the table, put the plates on it, and enjoyed my brunch. I must say the lunch was delicious something I would love to have again.
The blue sky, green gorges, and tall deodar trees, Kotgarh turned out to a wonderful decision. I haven’t had a wrong choice so far though most of my decisions were unplanned or loosely planned. Fortunate enough! My all previous journeys and last year’s all journeys were very less planned but all gave me wonderful memories to treasure. I had no idea what this place was all about. While I was in the cab heading to Kotgarh, I did a little research on accommodation in Kotgarh. I came across several cottages and other places that were not nearby the village. But I needed a place to stay in Kotgarh in the village itself or nearby, just at walking distance or trekking maybe.
I stayed in Kotgarh for two days and one night. I spent one-day trekking to Thanadhar and the other day roaming in Kotgarh village and took a bus back to Narkanda in the evening. I enjoyed a nice bonfire when I returned from Thanadhar to the hotel in the evening. It was a cold night and the bonfire moments were damn incredible.
