I always have a fantasy to spend some moment around a bonfire on a cold night full of stars along with some old Indi pop songs from the 90s. And if I get to play those songs on guitar, that’s just a heavenly experience. However, I don’t know how to play the guitar and it’s disastrous when I sing and you want me to sing. The only things left are the bonfire and the songs. Songs by Shaan, Lucky Ali, Aryans, etc. singers who made the 90s the best era of our life (if you are 90s born kid). On my weekend trip, I got to enjoy one such moment, I spent a night around a bonfire in Kotgarh with some really soul-soothing songs from the 90s. Just the guitar and singing parts were missing from the scene.

After returning to the hotel from Thanadhar
where I trekked from Kotgarh, I took some rest in the room and after dinner, the hotel guy invited me for the bonfire. Kotgarh is a small village located near Narkanda which is known for apple plantations. It is said that the first seed of apple was planted in Kotgarh only by a guy from Philadelphia, Samuel Evans Stokes Jr. While I with the hotel guy enjoying the bonfire in the cold January night of Kotgarh, he was narrating stories of the village and around. He told about the apple plantation and the Stokes family who still lives there. While I was enjoying this bonfire in Kotgarh in the hotel’s ground, the night was turning darker, colder, and more elegant.
The Story of Ustad Sultan Khan’s Piya Basanti Re and Bonfire in Kotgarh
So while I along one hotel guy sitting around the bonfire, he told me that the famous song Piya Basanti Re which was released in 2000 sung by Ustad Sultan Khan and Chitra, was shot here and around Kotgarh village. However, I am not sure if this information is correct or not. I tried to get the fact checked online but couldn’t find any mention. If you know anything, let me know in the comments below.
If you remember the song (if you are 90s kid), Teri Yaadein from the show Love Story directed by Anurag Basu, I have always wanted to sing this song for my partner sitting around the bonfire in a setting like this, the one I had in Kotgarh with the bonfire in a cold night surrounded by deodar trees with mountains in the backdrops covered with snow. Well, again, this dream is going to take a long time, an eternity maybe. Well, I was still living the moments sitting around the bonfire in Kotgarh. The hotel guy (13 Forest B&B) who was sitting with me left after some and I was sitting there alone, all by myself and kept sitting there for a long time, listening to my 90s playlist.

I have had such nights before too. But every night in such settings is mesmerizing. The elegance of nature and the beauty of the night always fascinate me and I keep staring at the stars for long. I wonder if I can take a break from my routine life, come here, sit around the bonfire, and after sometimes, just stare at the stars, the shiny twinkling diamonds in the sky, or probably holding hands with someone, remembering the beautiful memories, creating and treasuring some more memories to be cherished forever for life. I don’t fantasize about luxury nights but nights like this, the one I had with the blaze of the bonfire in Kotgarh where I spent some memorable moments listening to the music. This is romantic, isn’t it?
